A New York Yankees Diary – Day Seven – September 7th, 2025

And so, an afternoon game at Yankee Stadium with no seeming threat of the rain that drained the energy (in the Yankees’ favour) in the late innings of yesterday’s game. Today, Max Fried, who has bounced back well from the struggles that he had immediately after the All-Star game and has dominated in his last two appearances, took the mound. Versatile, veteran, Max Scherzer would be Toronto’s starter, and Fried would be first to take the mound.

A New York Yankees Diary – Day Six – September 6th, 2025

So, one down in the series and time for the Yankees to try and turn things around.

On the mound is the rookie of the year from 2024, Luis Gil who has recovered from injury. In his first games since returning, he started slowly but he has now built up his stamina and is settling well.

The Toronto Blue Jays started with George Springer leading off and popping up to Anthony Volpe for the first out, and then Addison Barger lined out to Cody Bellinger who is in rightfield this afternoon. So, a good start for Gil but then the Yankees’ nemesis from last night, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a double on a sharp line drive towards Jasson Dominguez as a way of welcoming Jasson back to the line-up.

A New York Yankees Diary – Day Five – September 5th, 2025

Cam Schlittler was probably the Yankees’ best starting pitcher in August. September didn’t begin so well for him.

When the first pitch went over the plate just after 7:11 pm, there was no reason to think anything out of the ordinary was about to take place and sure enough Schlittler struck out George Springer and then took out Addison Barger in the same way.

And then everything changed.

New York Yankees Diary – September 21st, 2023

The Yankees came into this one 2-0 down in their series with the Toronto Blue Jays, and with their bullpen and batters struggling. Clarke Schmidt had struggled two days ago, but Michael King excelled and still lost yesterday. The weight was now on the outstanding Gerrit Cole to turn things around.

However with Cole comes Ben Rortvedt, the weakest batter in the Yankees’ camp, and what the Yankees do not need is another weak bat especially if it meant benching Austin Wells who looked like he might be just about to turn things around.

New York Yankees Diary – September 20th, 2023

Well, the Yankees have returned to their losing ways. Yesterday, in the first game of their three games series against the Toronto Blue Jays, they lost 1-7 despite Clarke Schmidt (who has had a better than expected season) being on the mound.

Today, with another much improved pitcher, Michael King on the mound, they lost again – this time 1-6. This time, though, the starting pitcher had very little to do with the loss. The main feature of King’s season has been the way that the Yankees have been able to build his stamina, so he has gone from being a long reliever to one of the starters. In these days of many injured Yankees’ starters, this has proved a key element. Today, he delivered up 7 innings for only 1 run, and a career-high 13 strikeouts. And still the Yankees lost.
