Spring training 2010 – The Yankees designate a hitter

So 1 first baseman, 1 second baseman, 1 third baseman, 2 shortstops, 2 catchers, 5 outfielders, 5 starters and 7 relievers make 24.

Nick Johnson will be the designated hitter and brings the roster to its full complement of 25. However……. Unless……….. There are so many questions about Johnson’s durability that I can’t begin to address them. He is prone to injuries. He is slow to recover from injuries……………… and he gave the Yankees two injury scares in Spring Training.

If Johnson stays fit he will be the everyday DH and he will do very well. Look for a very high on-base percentage from him…….. if he can stay fit.

If he doesn’t then Juan Miranda should stay near his phone. If he does Marcus Thames, Randy Winn and many others will get an odd day in at DH. But watch out for those injuries…….

Johnson (look out for this man on a disabled list soon)

1.       Nick Johnson
2.       Juan Miranda
3.       Marcus Thames

Will carry: one (unless Nick has injury problems which is very likely)
