Each season, we award to players rankings according to outstanding performances during the season. Using this system, here’s how the Batters and Pitchers of the New York Yankees placed:
Batters:
99. Aaron Judge
39. Jose Trevino
25. Gleyber Torres
26. DJ LeMahieu
27. Giancarlo Stanton
24. Matt Carpenter
48. Anthony Rizzo
22. Harrison Bader
Pitchers:
65. Nestor Cortes
45. Gerrit Cole
56. Lou Trivino
35. Clay Holmes
97. Ron Marinaccio
40. Luis Severino
34. Michael King
43. Jonathan Loaisiga
In the list of the Top 12 players on Baseballreference.com (compiled by WAR alone), they rank Isiah Kiner Falefa, Josh Donaldson and Oswaldo Cabrera who didn’t make our 16. From our list, Giancarlo Stanton, Harrison Bader (they don’t include the post-season in their rankings), Lou Trivino, Clay Holmes, Ron Marinaccio, Luis Severino and Jonathan Loaisiga don’t make their list. This is partially because of them including far more batters than pitchers, whilst our system includes the same amount of each. As well as our visual assessment of a players contribution to a game, we use primarily the good old fashioned standard statistics (batting average, home runs, RBIs, ERA, Wins and losses, saves), rather than a system of sabermetrics.
