The New York Yankees in August were indifferent – neither good, nor bad, just lukewarm. They started the month at 62-48 and two games behind the Tampa Bay Rays, in 2nd place in the American League East. They finished August at 78-60 and still two games behind. Their monthly record 16-12. Lukewarm.
Aaron Judge still out injured. Clay Bellinger also on the injjured list for the majority of the month.
aaroThe pitching in July has not been a pretty picture.
Several relievers came in at the deadline (more on them presently), but the Yankees could also have used a new starter or two, but no-one arrived. They really aren’t in great shape.

Before tonight’s game, the Yankees, who had been told in no uncertain terms in August by General Manager Brian Cashman that their season was a disaster, then had one of their best runs of the season winning 8 of their previous 10 games. Indeed, one of the two they had lost was due to a walkoff. They were pretty much in contention for every game.
In September the Yankees had a team batting average of .232 and a team ERA (earned run average) of 4.05. If it wasn’t for those home runs that the team kept coming up with bundles of, then they would probably be looking at a win-loss record under .500 for the month. As it was, they came through 15-13 but some of their big name pitchers struggled majorly.
