Steve Hackett – Dancing a Foxtrot in 2022

What: Foxtrot at 50 and Hackett Highlights

Who: Steve Hackett and his band

Where: Hammersmith Apollo, London

When: October 12, 2022

Steve Hackett’s idea of incorporating his classic Genesis hits into his concert tours, setlist, and consequent live albums, has resulted in a commercial revival also. Prior to his Genesis Revisited II set in 2012, no album of his had charted in the UK for 15 years. Since then 12 of his albums (live and studio) have hit the UK top 100 album chart. His most recent release reached no. 28 in the charts. They don’t hang around for long, but it keeps his name in the public eye and these tours are at a reasonable profile.

Nad Sylvan – An Interview with the Vampirate

(And so as part of my ongoing project for this difficult period, on the day following my Bob and Hilary James interview https://twilightdawning.com/2020/05/22/bob-and-hilary-james-they-are-flesh-and-blood/, I was able to interview Nad Sylvan. As well as being an artist in his own right, Nad is the lead singer with the band led by ex-Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett).

(In the following conversation, NS denotes the comments of Nad Sylvan, and DH those of Darren Hirst)

DH: Thank you for making some time for me today in these strange circumstances. How is the weather with you?

NS: It’s very cold. It’s only like six degrees. it was up to 15 last week with sun, and you know, scattered clouds. But it’s pleasant enough. And we get to make a huge bonfire tonight because on this date every year it’s called Valborg. When we celebrate spring and we’ll all light a bonfire – the only day in the spring that we’re allowed to do that. I have a load of dead wood ready to go.

DH: Well, we’re in the middle of a thunderstorm at the moment in London, so if you hear any strange noises in the background that’s the explanation…

NS: Okay, cool.

Orchestral Hackett!

Who: Steve Hackett

What: Classic Genesis Revisited with Band and Orchestra

Where: Royal Festival Hall, Southbank, London

When: 4th October 2018

Steve Hackett, as you probably know, left Genesis a little over forty years ago (yes, I know, doesn’t it make you feel old). A few years ago, he hit on the idea of no longer seeing his musical career as two exclusive parts and introducing Genesis material into his shows – under the umbrella term “Genesis Revisited“. It has worked beyond expectations. Larger venues have been booked. Bigger houses and receipts are taken. Audiences are happy. What’s not to like, right? Let’s see how the current tour is going…

Time Lapse in Hammersmith

Mostly Hackett but things turned a little Autumnal too.

What: Steve Hackett

           Supported by Mostly Autumn (acoustic)

Where: Hammersmith Apollo

When: 1 November 2014

It was February 1984 and a close friend and I went to see Genesis at the NEC in Birmingham. Collins, Rutherford, Banks. I’d been a Genesis fan for about six years. Loved “Seconds Out”, “Wind And Wuthering” and “Duke”. Didn’t like the production on “Trick of the Tail”. Found “….And Then There Were Three” a bit of a mixed bag. Then I discovered the Gabriel years and my perception of the band began to change. “Trespass”, “Nursery Cryme” and “Foxtrot” joined “Duke” as my favourite Genesis albums.
