Late February at Ravenscourt Arts.
A celebration of Gospel in Music and Words
In February, I performed at Ravenscourt Arts Theatre in an event called “A Gospel Night”. Also on the bill were Dimitri McIntosh, Mick Chwedziak and the Ravenscourt Arts Choir.
What: Richard II by William Shakespeare
Where: Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon
When: November 2013
Richard II is not Shakespeare’s best known play. In fact, nobody I spoke to prior to seeing the current production could tell me the whole plot and storyline.
David Tennant is probably the UK’s best known Shakespearean actor. He has achieved this status not for his work on Shakespeare’s plays but because he is an extraordinarily well-known actor who also performs in Shakespeare. His fame comes primarily from his role as Dr Who – even within that role, within the last few days, he was voted the nation’s most popular Doctor.
What: Titus Andronicus
Where: Swan Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon
When: 30th May 2013
Perhaps, before I begin this review, I have to make a confession, Titus Andronicus is one of my favourite plays in Shakespeare’s oeuvre. Whilst other reviewers see it as being out of step with contemporary tastes, I have written quite extensively about its resonance with contemporary mores and issues. So whilst others were surprised to see it included in the RSC’s current season, I was pleased and excited to see it there. And I have to say that this production did not disappoint but lived up to all my hopes and expectations.

Antony and Cleopatra
I normally get to see the RSC’s productions at the beginning of their run and I’m then able to prepare the review early. This one is unusual as, because of my personal workload, I didn’t get to see Twelfth Night until three nights before it finished. I decided to prepare a review anyway – even though it’s likely to influence exactly nothing.
