It’s been four years since I was asked to review Panic Room live and during that time they’ve gone through a few changes. Bassist, Alun Vaughan was replaced by Yatim Halimi just after that last review and then last year, Paul Davies left to be eventually replaced by Adam O’ Sullivan.
What: Paul Cookson Poetry Workshop
Where: Ravenscourt Arts, Hammersmith, London
When: June 2,3,4, 2014
Just under 300 children booked places for the poetry workshops which were scheduled for the 1st week of June in Ravenscourt Arts. Paul Cookson was the poet and Darren Hirst the M.C. as the schools’ groups came and went, over a three day period.
What: Henry IV Part II
When: May 15th 2014
Where: Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The Royal Shakespeare Company last performed Henry IV Part II in 2008 as part of their “Histories” cycle. On that occasion it was necessary that they performed both Henry IV plays in tandem as they were performing all of Shakespeare’s history plays. Now in 2014, they have chosen to perform the two together again. I wonder at the wisdom of this decision.
Turning to the second part of our April survey, we find that the success of the pitching might have turned on a necessity of Tommy John surgery and a large glob of pine tar on someone’s neck………
Well, here we are a month into the new baseball season and time to begin our run of monthly surveys of the New York Yankees. We will be taking a slightly different approach this season. Anyway here goes with the batters and their performance in April:

Martletts Hall in Burgess Hill has become a regular stopping point for Judie Tzuke on her (almost) annual tours around the UK and tonight it is the opening night venue.

What: Henry IV Part 1 by William Shakespeare
Where: The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon

The Royal Shakespeare Company are publicising Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 as Shakespeare’s finest two plays. I can’t say I agree. Such a claim would make King Lear & Macbeth blush. However, they may well be the point where Shakespeare’s three stylistic modes best meet.

Where: The Suffolk Punch, Fulham Palace Road, London
The last time I caught up with Perkelt, they were a six-piece band, all from the Czech Republic and dressed in Mediaeval outfits. Now they are a three-piece and their appearance is Gothic but more in the Camden town sense than in any attempted historical reproduction.
